The choice of structuring this issue differently from usual is explained with the need to report on the first attempt to connect the different experiences and reflections produced through the years. "An opening to the practice of speaking about oneself and listening to each other which we consider much more than a methodology, believing it to be the foundation of an ethics of discourse".

Debate [Trial: let's listen: two meetings on politics], pp. 7-23

Two encounters took place in December 1991 and February 1992 in the review's headquarters. The debate occurred in two moments, of which an account is given here synthetically but, on the whole, accurately. Elena Gentili, Ida Dominijanni, Annamaria Crispino, Maria Luisa Boccia, Annalisa Biondi, Roberta Tatafiore, Alessandra Bocchetti, Paola Masi, Vania Chiurlotto, Paola Bono, Marina Pivetta, Tilde Capomazza, Mariella Gramaglia, Rosanna Marcodoppido, Luciana Viviani, Rosetta Stella took part in the debate.

The principal issues were: the relation between social change and the creation of a female symbolic, in the connection of political practice and political action; the importance of language and of the reached, possible, necessary levels of comunication; the problem of the collective subject's possible residual quality, with the reasons which may create it and the ways of avoiding it by once more extending confrontation within the feminist community and beyond.

This is the first chapter of Dissonances: study on women in contemporary philosophy, soon to be translated and published in Italy. Object of the research is the meeting point of philosophical modernity, in the sense of discourse on the crisis of the rational subject, and the issue of womanhood and women in philosophy.

The scope of this reflection is circumscribed on the one side by the analysis of the state of contemporary philosophy according to philosophers such as Michel Foucault and Gilles Deleuze; on the other by research on theory, politics and subjectivity carried out by a growing number of women who work in the field of philosophy.

The author reports on the panel presented at the congress "Women's culture and politics and the left in Italy between the 70s and the 80s", held in Rome on May 4-5 1992 and organized by the Women's study and research center of the Gramsci institute foundation, the proceedings of which are to be published.

The main traits of the women's association Unione Donne Italiane (Italian Women's Union) are sketched, and an interpretation of these traits is given. The story is told of the conflictual but politically fruitful encounter between UDI and neofeminist groups and of its consequences on UDI's further political stance and organization.
